A representative for Girl Talk (aka Gregg Gillis) notes that “there are no strings attached … no email address needed, no potential donation, or anything of that nature, and it will remain this way indefinitely.”
All Day was released today as Girl Talk’s fifth album with Illegal Art. The MP3 can be downloaded in one seamless file or with separate tracks.
Illegal Art’s site points out that “All Day is intended to be listened to as a whole. It is broken up into individual tracks only for easier navigation.”
The 12-track album features 373 samples over a course of 71 minutes. The first track, “Oh No,” features over a dozen samples including Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs,” Ludacris‘ “Move Bitch,” Jane’s Addiction’s “Jane Says,” Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop and Missy Elliott’s “Get Ur Freak On.”
In his 2007 Pollstar cover story Girl Talk explained that he doesn’t see himself as a DJ.
“Even if I wanted to just show up and play someone else’s songs, I don’t know how to DJ. I make music out of other people’s music. If your definition of a DJ is someone who works with pre-existing sounds, then I fall into that category. To me, playing a sampler and making something new out of something old is just like any rock band. If someone picks up a guitar or plays the keyboard, they didn’t invent those sounds. They’re just shifting the sounds that someone else invented.”
Girl Talk’s 2011 tour dates kick off Jan. 5 at House Of Blues in Cleveland with dates on the books through a March 23 gig at The Marquee in Tempe, Ariz.
Shows are also set for New Orleans (Jan. 10), Dallas (Jan. 15), Atlanta (Jan. 21), Baltimore (Jan. 31), Philadelphia (Feb. 4), New York (Feb. 24). Seattle (March 15), and San Diego (March 22).
