Conflicting Casinos
The Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, Conn., said revenue in October slid 4 percent as fewer gamblers visited because of a drop in concerts. But rival Foxwoods Resort Casino said revenue was up 4.5 percent.
Mohegan Sun said October revenue was $60 million, down from $63 million for the same period in 2009. It was the third consecutive month there was a drop-off in revenue. Mohegan Sun CEO Mitchell Etess said 28,000 fewer visitors came to the casino this October versus the same month last year.
Meanwhile, Foxwoods said revenue for the month was $57 million, the second increase in as many months, but executives at the Mashantucket casino are said to be cautious because of the weak economy.
