The Decemberists’ January Plans

Whatever The Decemberists’ New Year’s resolutions may be, the indie rock band is beginning 2011 on a good note with a new album and a North American tour.

The King Is Dead is set for release Jan. 18 on Capitol Records. The sixth studio album is the follow-up to the band’s 2009 record, The Hazards of Love.

The 2011 tour dates kick off Jan. 25 at Beacon Theatre in New York. U.S. and Canadian dates are booked through a Feb. 19 hometown gig at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Ore.

In March The Decemberists head for Europe with gigs set in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Belgium and the Netherlands.

A limited presale for all North American dates is on sale now. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday at 10 a.m. EST.

A pre-sale for the European dates begins Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. The public on-sale follows on Nov. 19 at 9 a.m.

Tune in to “Conan” on TBS this Thursday to see The Decemberists perform along with Gillian Welch. The band promises an “extra nifty” time.
