Michael Cera Touring With Mister Heavenly
The band features drummer Joe Plummer of Modest Mouse, Honus Honus of Man Man, and Nick Thorburn of Islands and The Unicorns.
In a blog post Monday Sub Pop Records revealed it had signed Mister Heavenly. The label described the band as “spurred on by a mutual appreciation for doo-wop and doomed love songs (aka doom-wop).”
A representative with Sub Pop told Pollstar Cera is a touring member of the band (as opposed to a permanent full-time member). He is set to perform with the group on all of its scheduled winter dates.
Cera made his debut with the band on Tuesday with a show at Moore Theatre in Seattle, according to Seattle’s The Stranger (via Pitchfork.com).
The actor previously took on the role of a bass player in the 2010 film “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” in addition to the 2008 flick “Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist.”
The Guardian points out that this isn’t Cera’s first time working with Thorburn. The actor appeared in the Islands video for “No You Don’t.” He also helped compose the soundtrack for the 2009 film “Paper Heart.”
According to Alt Press, Cera provided vocals, hurdy gurdy and mandolin on the tune “Hang On,” which hails from Weezer’s 2010 album Hurley.
Mister Heavenly performs tonight at Café Du Nord in San Francisco. The band is opening for Passion Pit with support dates booked through a Dec. 9 gig at House Of Blues in Las Vegas. A series of California dates are scheduled in Santa Cruz (Dec. 3), Pomona (Dec. 4), San Diego (Dec. 5), Hollywood (Dec. 7), and Santa Barbara (Dec. 8).
The band will also play two solo shows later this month with gigs in Salt Lake City (Dec. 10) and Austin, Texas (Dec. 13).
