Rain Fires Back

In October, an American promoter sued Rain for $2 million for fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, conversion, breach of contract and unjust enrichment in connection with a concert that never took place.

The $2 million claim includes $150,000 that the promoter, Andrew Kim, says he lent the singer for gambling purposes in Las Vegas and which Rain supposedly never paid back.

Rain says that by reporting these allegations, which he and his agency, J. Tune Entertainment, deny, SportsSeoul.com has caused serious injury to his reputation.

In his own lawsuit, Kim alleges that he arranged with Rain to talk to an immigration lawyer in the U.S. so the singer could obtain a green card and avoid his mandatory military service in South Korea.

However, it was recently announced in the Korean media that Rain will hold a New Year’s Eve concert in Seoul as a kind of “farewell” before he “enlists” in the army next year.

In other Rain news, the pop star did not appear at the controversial Mnet Asian Music Awards Nov. 28 in Macau even though he was originally slated to sing at the event and was the only winner of the evening who didn’t perform.

The official reason was that Rain would be busy filming a TV drama that weekend.

However, Rain did become a last-minute addition to the closing ceremony of the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, Nov. 27, where he sang three songs.
