Odds & Ends: Foo Fighters + Jimi Hendrix + Miss Pamela

Dave Grohl has booked an upcoming gig to rock out with the Muppets, a Jimi Hendrix feature film has been given the no-go, and Pamela Des Barres says she wants Zooey Deschanel to play the most famous groupie of all in her upcoming HBO series.

How Do You Help An Angry Animal?

The Foo Fighters frontman has reportedly signed on to the upcoming “The Muppets” film.

In his cameo Grohl will fill in for Muppets drummer Animal while the monster is busy taming his animal urges in anger management treatment, according to NME.com.

Animal plays the drums for Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem, which also features Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Janice on guitar, Sgt. Floyd Pepper on bass, and Zoot on saxophone.

Why Fans Won’t Experience Hendrix Film

Experience Hendrix, which controls Jimi Hendrix’s music rights, has refused to give the OK to a feature film about the musician.

Deadline Hollywood reports the film had financing from Legendary Pictures, whose chief Thomas Tull recently financed the music documentary “It Might Get Loud.” Oscar-nominated Paul Greengrass had given his commitment as the director and Anthony Mackie was eyed to star as Hendrix.

“Legendary proceeded without our permission, direction or involvement,” Experience Hendrix president/CEO Janie Hendrix said in a statement to Deadline Hollywood. “It didn’t ‘fall apart,’ it never was. When we do the Jimi Hendrix feature film bio, we will be involved and in control from the beginning.”

Deadline Hollywood hypothesized the estate didn’t want to go ahead with the film out of fear it might hurt sales of the Hendrix backlist. A spokesman for the estate denied this was true.

She’s With The Band

Pamela Des Barres, who was known as “Miss Pamela” during her heyday as one of the most notorious groupies of the ‘60s and early ‘70s, recently told Rolling Stone a HBO series based on her books is still in the works.

In 1987 Des Barres published the book “I’m with the Band” about her exploits and memories of Frank Zappa, Jimmy Page and Mick Jagger. She followed up the memoir with 1993’s “Take Another Little Piece of My Heart: A Groupie Grows Up” regarding her marriage and divorce to actor/singer Michael Des Barres.

“I’ve been trying to get ‘I’m With the Band’ on the screen for 25 years,” Des Barres told Rolling Stone in an inteview published earlier this week.

“It’s set in Laurel Canyon and the Sunset Strip in the late ’60s. Zooey Deschanel is set to play me. We’re meeting with [the writer] Jill Soloway next week again to, you know, tell her all kinds of stories and give her the vibe and the juice. You know, she wants to make it as authentic as possible.”

Des Barres was featured in a new VH1 documentary that aired Wednesday.

“Let’s Spend the Night Together: Confessions of Rock’s Greatest Groupies” was adapted from her 2007 book “Let’s Spend the Night Together: Backstage Secrets of Rock Muses and Supergroupies.”
