Hikaru Streams Live

Japanese star Hikaru Utada’s two farewell concerts at the Yokohama Arena Dec. 8-9 were sold out months ago, so about a week before they took place she announced that one would be streamed live.

The Wednesday show was simulcast at 64 movie theaters throughout Japan though video company Ustream, which also streamed the concert live online and made it accessible around the world.

Utada, who grew up in New York and Tokyo, announced in August she was taking an extended hiatus to learn about life.

She’s been a superstar in Japan since she was 16 and still has the biggest-selling album in Japanese chart history.
