Sometimes folky, sometimes goth, Rasputina is touring in support of its 2010 album, Sister Kinderhook, which weaves a fantasy element into a history thread, touching on significant events such as upstate New York’s anti-rent war in 1844 as well as contending that real giants actually walked the earth and perished in a self-inflicted genocidal holocaust. Needless to say, Sister Kinderhook is something you don’t see every day when perusing your local record store.

The tour begins in Hudson, N.Y., at Club Helsinki Feb. 17. Other stops on Rasputina’s march toward cello domination include Buffalo, N.Y., at Club Diablo Feb. 18; Toronto at Lee’s Palace Feb. 19 and Detroit’s Magic Stick Feb. 20. The routing also includes Cleveland (Feb. 22), Cincinnati (Feb. 23), Morgantown, W.V. (Feb. 24), Baltimore (Feb. 25) and New York City (Feb. 26).
