Janet Jackson Announces North America Dates

No more teasing, no more waiting as the “Janet Jackson Number Ones, Up Close and Personal Tour” reveals the North American routing promising plenty of hits performed in intimate venues.

The number 35 also figures into the game plan with Jackson hitting 35 global cities where she’ll perform her 35 No.1 songs in support of her CD Number Ones.

To determine where she would play, Jackson reached out to her fans via her website asking them to nominate cities for the tour. Along with the newly added North American towns, cities already chosen by fans include Manila (Feb. 4), Singapore (Feb. 7), Hong Kong (Feb. 14) and Taipei (Feb. 19).

A quick look at the itinerary shows this isn’t your typical Janet tour. Gone are the usual mega-sports arena stops. Instead, Jackson is focusing on smaller, more intimate settings. Plus, there will be a unique element incorporated into every evening’s performance guaranteeing that no show will be the same.

Jackson is also asking fans to nominate five “20 under 20” young leaders in their communities and will invite 20 of those noms along with their sponsors on stage as well as backstage for a VIP meet-n-greet with Janet (Ms. Jackson if you’re nasty).

The North American portion of the tour launches with two nights in the Windy City at the Chicago Theatre March 7-8. Other stops include Toronto’s Sony Centre For The Performing Arts March 12; Uncasville, Conn., at the Mohegan Sun Arena March 16; New York’s Radio City Music Hall March 18 and Washington’s DAR Constitution Hall March 22.

Other cities include Atlantic City (March 25-26), Atlanta (March 29), St. Louis (March 31), Grand Prairie, Texas (April 2), Denver (April 6), Phoenix (April 8), Santa Barbara (April 9), Los Angeles (April 14), San Francisco (April 19) and Las Vegas (April 22-23).

“These concerts will be different from anything I have ever done,” Jackson said. “I will be as up close and personal as possible. These concerts are not about special effects. This is a love affair between me and those of you who have supported me and my work for all these years. I’ll be singing and dancing from my heart. The music will all be songs that you’ve made number ones for me. Let’s go!”
