Of Montreal Announce Spring Tour

Of Montreal will spend the spring touring North America and working on a seemingly endless supply of new tunes.

Tonight the indie pop band plays The Moon in Tallahassee, Fla., followed by three more gigs lined up later this week in Florida.

The newly announced spring dates begin April 28 at 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. Shows are booked through a May 20 gig at The Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta.

Of Montreal will also be showing off its crazy onstage antics and costumes at Webster Hall in New York (April 30), Vic Theatre in Chicago (May 5), The Fillmore in San Francisco (May 13) and South Side Music Hall in Dallas (May 17).

Frontman Kevin Barnes told Spin the tour will feature surprise covers, classic Of Montreal songs, and the live debut of some new tunes.

“The songs were written in the same period as [2010’s] False Priest. Some of them are a bit noisier and a little bit less groove-based, and some are just a bit artier.”

Fans can look out for the new songs on an upcoming Of Montreal EP titled The Controller Sphere. The EP is set for released sometime this spring.

Barnes plans to waste no time returning to the studio once the spring tour wraps up. He told Spin he’s already starting working on three new tracks for the band’s 11th full-length studio album.

The tracks are tentatively titled “This Planet Is an Orphanage,” “Ye Renew the Plaintiff” and “We Will Commit Wolf Murder.”
