Margaritaville Biloxi Back On
A plan to build a Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant in Biloxi, Miss., is back on after being shelved for more than a year.
Developers are working to obtain all paperwork and license approvals for the $48 million, 68,000-square-foot facility to break ground in March, with a goal of opening by year’s end.
The project also includes shops, an outdoor dining area, events center and a marina.
Jimmy Buffett originally partnered with Harrah’s Entertainment in 2007 to build a $700 million casino on the beach. However, the project was halted by Harrah’s in 2008 because of the down economy and area market conditions.
The singer is now working with new partners to build a less costly and more casual resort in Biloxi.
The project still needs approval from the Biloxi City Council and Mississippi Gaming Commission.
