Culture Club Coming Back

The singer broke the news during an appearance on BBC’s “Breakfast” show in response to a question sent in to the program by record producer Mark Ronson.

“We are getting back together. Next year,” Boy George said on Thursday. “This year I’m doing the Here and Now tour … which is another big ‘80s thing. We’re doing that this year. You can get tickets for that now. That’s on my own. It’s kind of a precursor for what I’m doing with Culture Club in 2012. We’ll be doing a proper sort of huge worldwide tour. And a new album.”

Culture Club formed in 1981 and released its debut album, Kissing to be Clever, in 1982. After the British new wave band broke up in 1986, the group reformed in 1998 for a reunion tour. Boy George and the gang celebrated its 20th anniversary with a 2002 reunion show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Yahoo Music blog Amplifier notes that bassist Mikey Craig and drummer Jon Moss tried to tour with a Boy George replacement singer but the 2006 trek never happened.

Culture Club’s most recent album, Don’t Mind If I Do, was released in 1999.

Boy George is touring in support of his eighth solo studio album, Ordinary Alien. He performs next month in Argentina and Brazil.

Upcoming “Here & Now” tour dates are booked in the United Kingdom between June 24-July 2 and feature performances from Boy George, Kim Wilde, Howard Jones, Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Altered Images, Brother Beyond and Hazel O’Connor.
