DAS Pushes Ke$ha Lawsuit
The lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court claims the singer, whose “TiK Tok” was the No. 1 song in the country last year, could be a one-trick pony who owes the company millions for its part in her success, according to documents obtained by the New York Post.
“Ke$ha is a very young and inexperienced artist whose ‘star’ may not continue to rise,” the suit says. “Although she has made an incredible amount of money in a very short period of time, in large part due to DAS’ efforts on her behalf, she could just as easily lose money if not properly guided.”
The suit stems from when Ke$ha signed with DAS in 2006 and agreed to pay the New York-based company 20 percent of her music income. The firm reportedly gave her the option of terminating the agreement if DAS didn’t land her a major-label deal in a year, which was the case, but the singer allegedly waived the deadline.
DAS clams it was setting up a deal with Warner Bros. Records when hit songwriter Dr. Luke allegedly interfered with the arrangement. Ke$ha cut ties with DAS in 2008 and ultimately landed a deal with RCA/Jive Label Group, which released her debut, Animal.
Ke$ha’s lawyer, Charles Ortner, disagrees, saying the pop star was just exercising her right to fire the managers when they didn’t deliver what was promised.
