Coldplay Headlining Glastonbury

Coldplay is returning to for first time in six years to headline the event’s 2011 edition.

Glastonbury takes place June 22-26 at Worthy Farm in Pilton, England. Coldplay performs Saturday, June 25 on the Pyramid Stage.

“Coldplay have played such a major part in the Festival over the last 10 years or so,” said festival organizer Michael Eavis. “As their popularity grew around the world I was so proud of them. This is the triumphant return of a band that everyone here feels part of. They’re one of the greatest phenomena to grow from these fields.”

Shortly after signing its record deal, Coldplay made its debut at the festival in 1999 in the New Bands Tent. The next year the British rock band performed on the Other Stage, followed by its 2002 headline appearance on the Pyramid Stage. Chris Martin and the gang last played the festival in 2005.

Along with its Glastonbury appearance, Coldplay has lined up spots at several other festival including Pinkpop in Netherlands, Heineken Open’er Festival in Poland, Rock Werchter Festival in Belgium, Optimus Alive! Festival in Spain and Rock In Rio in Brazil.

Last week Beyoncé announced she was closing out Glastonbury, playing the Pyramid Stage on Sunday, June 26. The rest of the lineup will be announced in the spring.

Tickets to the 2011 festival sold out in October. U.K. ticket balances can be paid beginning April 1. International ticket balances are due between Feb. 25 and March 3.

Fans that don’t pay the balance on the tickets will have their deposits refunded and the returned tickets will be made available in a resale. According to Glastonbury’s website, the resale will most likely take place in April.
