Steve Martin’s NYC Story

The only thing better than laughing at Steve Martin’s tweets is watching the uber-talented guy do his thing on the banjo.

The actor/comedian/musician/author has added five new dates to his tour schedule. The shows all take place in New York during the week of March 14.

Martin starts off the week March 14 at Highline Ballroom. He then takes up residency at Joe’s Pub for the next three nights. On March 19 Martin can be found at Music Hall Of Williamsburg in Brooklyn.

After touring with Martin last year, the Steep Canyon Rangers will once again join him on stage in New York. The bluegrass band is also featured on Martin’s upcoming album Rare Bird Alert.

The album, which is set for release March 15, includes guest vocal appearances by Paul McCartney and Dixie Chicks. Rare Bird Alert features 13 new tracks penned by Martin including two tunes co-written with the Steep Canyon Rangers and a live version of “King Tut.”

Martin’s most recent album, 2009’s The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo, was honored with a Grammy for best bluegrass album.

Tickets to the NYC shows go on sale Friday, Feb. 18.

In April Martin returns to NYC to play Carnegie Hall with James Taylor.

Steep Canyon Rangers and Martin will play together at least two more times this year with shows booked May 20 in Charleston, W.Va., and May 21 in Durham, N.C.

On May 25 Providence Performing Arts Center in Rhode Island hosts “A Conversation with Steve Martin.” The audience-interactive evening will feature Martin, a moderator and a Q&A segment with fans.

June 30 will find Martin at the Warner Theatre in Torrington, Conn.

Fans can also catch Martin performing with the Steep Canyon Rangers on “The Late Show with David Letterman” (March 16), “The View” (March 17), and “The Colbert Report” (March 21).

If you’re not already following Martin’s Twitter account, here are a few recent tweets:

“Long story short, stuck in egg with Gaga,” he tweeted Feb. 13, the night of the Grammy Awards. “Still in egg. 9-1-1- operator not taking me seriously.”

Earlier today he shared his thoughts on the weather:

“Water falling from sky! I will check this out with scientist friends,” Martin wrote. “Have analyzed droplets. They contain two parts hydrogen. Same ingredient as hydrogen bomb. Fortunately, umbrella can protect.”
