D.C. Airports Host Concerts

Where bowling alleys have become alternative concert venues in some areas, two D.C.-area airports provided a similar service mid-February.

Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport recently entertained travelers by featuring lunchtime concerts to honor Black History month.

Courtney Mikalonis, spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, said the shows were part of the airports’ ongoing arts program.

“Our goal is to give our passengers something to enjoy,” Mikalonis said. “There are so many talented people in the D.C. area, we wanted to tap into that for our passengers.”

Up-and-coming acts that performed at both venues were progressive hip-hop performer Christylez Bacon, violinist Chelsey Green and her ensemble, The Green Project, and soul singer Teri S.

However, live music at an airport isn’t completely unheard of. A survey of 89 airports conducted by the Airports Council International – North America trade group reportedly revealed that 31 offer live music.
