Sufjan Stevens Announces European Tour

Sufjan Stevens is headed to Europe in April for his first tour dates of 2011.

The trek marks Stevens’ first European tour in five years. A post on his label’s website reminisces about the last time indie folk singer-songwriter performed for European fans.

“Do you remember 2006? That was the year we lost contact with Pioneer 10, Italy won their fourth FIFA World Cup, and No 5, 1948 by Jackson Pollock became the most expensive painting ever sold. Good times! It was also the last time Sufjan set foot in Europe as a touring musician.”

Asthmatic Kitty Records promises that the tour will be similar to past treks, which have featured “gratuitous amounts of dancing, neon gaffe tape, balloons and DM Stith.”
The new dates begin April 29 in Bergen, Norway with a gig at Grieghallen. Shows are booked through a May 31 performance in Lisbon, Portugal at Coliseu Lisboa.

Stevens will also play Oslo, Norway (April 30); Copenhagen, Denmark (May 1); Stockholm, Sweden (May 3); Berlin (May 7); Paris (May 9); London (May 12-13); Dublin, Ireland (May 17); and Eindhoven, Netherlands (May 21).

Singer/songwriter DM Stith will open for Stevens.

Fans can also catch Stevens at San Miguel Primavera Sound May 26-27 in Barcelona, Spain.

Stevens’ most recent release is the 2010 album The Age of Adz.
