U2 To Headline Glastonbury
The band will headline Glastonbury Pyramid Stage Friday evening, June 24. Coldplay tops the June 25 lineup and Beyoncé headlines June 26.
The announcement was made at last night’s NME Awards with U2 guitarist The Edge delivering a video message congratulating Glastonbury promoters Michael and Emily Eavis on winning the best festival award.
“It’s more a way of life than a festival,” The Edge said in the video announcement. “I made it last year to the Friday show – got to play with Muse, got to hang out, ate a veggie burger and fries, and got to play on the Pyramid Stage. I have to say there is something really special and iconic about that stage. So we’re all looking forward to coming back to pick up where I left off. And we’re so excited to get to play in front of the world’s greatest festival audience. We’ll see you there.
U2 was supposed to play Glastonbury last year but the band had to withdraw from the lineup after Bono underwent emergency back surgery in June.
