Illness Strikes Sum 41

A nasty case of pneumonia has sidelined Sum 41, forcing the band to scrub its Australian tour.

Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley is the person caught in pneumonia’s wicked, wicked grasp, striking down the vocalist while the band was touring Australia as part of the Soundwave Festival. According to the band’s website, Whibley is currently being treated in a Sydney hospital where he will remain until he is pneumonia-free.

At first it appeared Whibley’s illness would only affect two shows – Soundwave’s “Sidewaves” events scheduled for Sydney March 1 and Melbourne March 2. Now Sum 41’s entire Australian run has been canceled. The band’s next scheduled date is March 12 in Valencia, Spain. Visit the Sum 41 website for more information.
