Parliament Inquiry Into One Movement

The Legislative Council’s Estimates and Financial Operations Committee of West Australia’s parliament announced it will investigate whether the WA Tourism Commission’s $2.95 million worth of support of Perth’s One Movement event over two years has brought any benefit to the state.

Shadow culture and the arts minister John Hyde applauded the decision, saying that the event failed to attract a large number of paying attendees.

Dave Chitty, managing director of Perth-based Sunset Events, one of the event’s organizers, declined to comment on plans for the inquiry, dismissing it as “largely a political debate” in a statement.

One Movement had international speakers to speak at panels, as well as acts from around the world to showcase. The event includes performers such as Sarah McLachlan, Todd Rundgren and Ben Kweller.
