R.E.M.’s Film Project
R.E.M. doesn’t always tour when the band releases a new album, so word that Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills won’t hit the road for Collapse Into Now isn’t all that unique. R.E.M. didn’t tour for its 1991 album Out Of Time or for its 1992 release, Automatic For The People.
Each film in the project accompanies a song on Collapse Into Now, which lands in stores March 8. With all selections curated by Stipe, the directors behind the films include Oscar-nominated actor and Academy Awards co-host James Franco, filmmaker/photographer/artist Sam Taylor-Wood and Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles.
