Montreal International Jazz Festival Adds Acts

Robert Plant & The Band Of Joy will kick off the 2011 edition of the Montreal International Jazz Festival by performing a pre-opening concert.

The 32nd annual festival takes place June 24 through July 4 with performances held at 10 concerts halls and 10 free outdoor stages throughout Montreal. According to the festival’s website, each year the festival features 3,000 artists from 30 countries. More than 650 concerts are held, including 450 free outdoor performances. The yearly attendance is close to 2.5 million fans.

Plant and his band will perform June 24 at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier. Peter Frampton will take to the stage at the same venue June 30 to perform his 1976 album Frampton Comes Alive! Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier will host Return to Forever IV (featuring Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, Frank Cambale and Jean-Luc Ponty) June 26.

Additional performers announced this week include Youssou N’Dour (June 26 at Metropolis), Brad Mehldau and Joshua Redman (June 26 at Theatre Maisonneuve), Regina Carter (June 30 at Gesu Theatre), Caravan Palace (July 3 at Metropolis) and Ana Moura (July 4 at Theatre Maisonneuve).

Tickets to the shows mentioned above go on sale starting Saturday, March 12.

Fans can purchase tickets now to previously announced performances including shows by Diana Krall, Pink Martini, Sade with John Legend, Holly ColePaco de Lucia, and Madeleine Peyroux.

The complete indoor lineup will be announced April 6. The program for the free, outdoor concerts will be revealed in June.
