Some San Franciscans Wary Of Free Britney Concert

Spears’ March 27 performance will be in support of her upcoming album, Femme Fatale, set for a March 25 release. ABC’s “Good Morning America” plans to broadcast the show March 29.

But not everyone is happy Spears is blessing the Castro with a freebie performance. For them, the concert is nothing but one big hassle as the city reroutes Muni buses for the day and shuts down a section of Castro Street for 17 hours, according to Oakland TV station KTVU.

Then there’s all that gear and equipment that will be trucked to the location that’s sure to add to the traffic.

“Our business depends on people being able to get to us, so they probably won’t be able to get to us that day,” Terry Asten Bennett of Cliff’s Variety told the television station while bemoaning the temporary lack of parking that’s bound to result from the event.

However, not everyone is looking upon Spears’ arrival as a dark day in the Castro. Mike Stone, president of Mollie Stone’s Market that opened last week, thinks it’s a good thing.

“Even if it hurts business, I think it will be more valuable to the area,” Stone told KTVU.

Meanwhile, San Francisco residents are gearing up for a dose of free Britney March 27.

“It’s going to be really good for the gay community, the Castro,” said local Tony Miller. “Good for her career.”
