Bowie Musical Hits Serious Moonrights

A New Zealand musical called “Rock ’n’ Roll Suicide,” which uses 24 David Bowie songs and whose dialogue is based on his lyrics, was forced to bring down the curtains.

Margaret O’Hanlon road-tested the original musical with three shows in Arrowtown last October to sellout crowds.

But when she tried to take the production on tour, Bowie’s local publisher Universal Music Publishing Australia refused permission for use of his material.
