Lieberberg Leads Medusa Challenge

Marek Lieberberg has already been announced as the winner of two of this year’s German Live Entertainment Awards, and it’ll be a surprise if his Medusa Group colleagues don’t collect more of them.

Lieberberg was announced as the winner of the special jury prize at a Frankfurt press conference March 10, when it was also revealed that his 30 Seconds To Mars tour won the public vote for “new style event of the year.”

The Eventim-owned Medusa Group has a chance of collecting another four LEAs at the annual prize-giving at Frankfurt Festival Hall April 5. The group has just celebrated a record-breaking 2010 with revenues up 4.7 percent to euro 333.8 million and pre-tax profits up 10.3 percent to euro 24.5 million.

Dieter Semmelmann’s Semmel Concerts, which is up for promoter of the year against Marcel Avram’s United Promoters and Ossy Hoppe’s Wizard Promotions, has two nominations in the arena tour of the year category.

The tours he did for Scorpions and Helene Fischer are up against Buback Tonträger’s Jan Delay dates, MCT’s Arcade Fire tour, and the Peter Gabriel dates put together by Karsten Jahnke and Peter Rieger.

Rieger, another Medusa Group promoter, is also nominated for best club tour for his OMD dates.

Folkert Koopmans’ FKP Scorpio has so many outdoors that it’s not a shock to see one of them nominated for festival of the year. This year he has two chances, both for niche festivals, as Chiemsee Reggae and goth festival M’Era Luna are both in the frame.
The opposition comes from I Motion’s Nature One, one of Europe’s largest electronic music festivals, and the Jazz Baltica fest that takes place close to the Baltic coast at Kiel.

The absence of any of the major outdoors such as Rock Am Ring, Rock Im Park, Hurricane, Southside, Highfield and Wacken Open Air suggests the jury is looking to honour some of the smaller, specialist festivals.

The LEA nominations and winners are decided by an independent jury of journalists who work in the live entertainment sphere. The event is put together by BDV, the major German promoters’ association, and Musikmarkt magazine.
