Sammy Hagar & His Alien Abduction

Red: My Uncensored Life In Rock, which was released last week, covers the crazy stories he’s gathered over the years while pursuing a solo career, rocking out with Van Halen and playing with his bands the Warboritas and Chickenfoot.

In an interview promoting the memoir, Hagar told MTV Hive that he loves UFO stuff so much that he could devote a whole book to the subject. He’s also studied numerology and talked with psychics.

The alien dream included in the memoir involves a ship with two creatures that were tapped into the singer’s mind “through some kind of mysterious wireless connection.”

After the MTV Hive reporter kids around with Hagar, asking if he’s ever been abducted by aliens, the singer admits that the dream was real.

“It was real. [Aliens] were plugged into me. It was a download situation. This was long before computers or any kind of wireless. There weren’t even wireless telephones. Looking back now, it was like, ‘F**k, they downloaded something into me!’ Or they uploaded something from my brain, like an experiment. ‘See what this guy knows.’”

Hagar added that it wasn’t his first encounter with aliens, recalling when he was four years old and saw a car without wheels floating across a field. After throwing rocks at the vehicle, Hagar says he can’t remember what happened next.

The interview and memoir includes stories about Van Halen’s sex tents that were once set up at shows under the stage, as well as the time Hagar dropped his pants in front of a booing crowd at Madison Square Garden.

“I think it was the production team that built our stages. I think they just thought it was part of the deal. They were like, ‘Well, this is Van Halen. The guys must want sex tents, right?’ Because everyone in the band took solos, you needed a place to go change or rest. You didn’t stand on the side of the stage where everybody could look at you.”

The singer also discussed why he doesn’t like David Lee Roth.

“He’s not a friendly guy. He’s not a nice guy at all. And he’s no freakin’ fun. Here’s a guy who makes an image out of being a party animal, getting the babes and having a good time. But on tour, you knock on his dressing room door and he won’t come out. It’s like that Cheech & Chong skit. ‘Dave’s not here, man.’ He doesn’t want to jam on stage, he doesn’t want to listen to music and do a few shots of tequila, he doesn’t want you to bring a few girls to his dressing room.”
