Extra, Extra, Read All About It – Radiohead’s Newspaper
The British alternative rock band is publishing the newspaper to celebrate the physical release of the group’s eighth studio album, The King of Limbs. The album was released in February as a download through Radiohead’s website. Fans could choose between a $9 MP3 download or a $14 higher-quality WAV version.
The physical version of The King of Limbs will be available in the United States and Canada on March 29. The album will be sold everywhere else on March 28.
The Universal Sigh will be released in cities across the globe correspondingly – in the U.S. and Canada on Tuesday and everywhere else on Monday.
The newspaper’s website notes that the publication “will be given away, free, gratis, without cost to the consumer by accredited vendors from a multitude of locations WORLDWIDE! … Our dedicated teams of newspaper delivery people will be handing out copies of THE UNIVERSAL SIGH to anyone who wants one, until we run out!”
Fans can check out TheUniversalSigh.com to look up the nearest newsstands carrying the paper. Locations include Los Angeles; Chicago; Paris; Sydney, Australia; Toronto; London; Helsinki, Finland; Dublin, Ireland; Athens, Greece; Moscow, Russia; Portland, Ore.; Warsaw, Poland; and New York.
Radiohead has a few important notices to point out to fans. Don’t try and sign up as a subscriber to The Universal Sigh because “this event WILL NOT be repeated.” The band wants to make it absolutely clear that “this event IS NOT a live performance by Radiohead.”
And another thing – “This newspaper is NOT the newspaper that accompanies the Newspaper Album version of The King of Limbs.”
The Newspaper Album version the band is referring to is a special edition of The King of Limbs that won’t be available until May 9. The package includes a compact disc, two clear 10” vinyl records in a purpose-built record sleeve, a number of large sheets of artwork, 625 tiny pieces of artwork and a digital download of The King of Limbs. The Newspaper Album is priced at $48 if fans want the MP3 of The King of Limbs and $53 if they prefer the WAV version of the album.
