The first indication that band members were reuniting occurred last July when a posting on the group’s Facebook page asked “Anyone in the mood for a reunion by The Cars?” In December the band posted a snippet of a new track – “Sad Song” – and followed up with a music video released in March.

Set to launch the same day the band’s new album Move Like This lands in stores, The Cars begin the reunion journey in Seattle at Showbox SoDo May 10 then travel southward to Los Angeles for a show at the Hollywood Palladium May 12. Other stops include Oakland at the Fox Theatre May 13; Denver at The Fillmore May 15; Minneapolis at First Avenue May 17; Chicago at the Riviera Theatre May 18; Toronto at The Sound Academy May 20; Washington, D.C., at 9:30 Club May 23 and New York City’s Roseland May 25. Last date on the schedule shows the band in Boston at House Of Blues May 26.

Who’s in The Cars these days? All the surviving original members – Ric Ocasek, Greg Hawkes, Elliot Easton and David Robinson. Bassist and vocalist Benjamin Orr passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2000. Hawkes and Move Like This producer Garret “Jacknife” Lee shared bass duties on the album, according to Rolling Stone.

“It seemed strange when Ben wasn’t there for rehearsals, Ocasek told Rolling Stone during an interview published in February. “I’m kind of used to the fact that he passed away awhile ago. But when we first got together, it was like, ‘Oh yeah, it’s just the four of us here. Whoever wants to play bass, just play.”

Ticket sales begin this week. For more information, click here for The Cars Facebook page and here for the band’s home on the web.  To read Ocasek’s comments in Rolling Stone, just click here.
