Prince Adds Fourth LA Show

Slowly but surely Prince is revealing exactly when and where the 21 shows on his Los Angeles residency will take place. A fourth show has been announced for next week.

The LA residency is part of Prince’s “Welcome 2 America” tour that kicked off in December in New Jersey. The singer announced the LA residency April 7 by making a phone call to George Lopez during TBS’ “Lopez Tonight.” The Purple One revealed few details besides saying the residency would begin April 14 at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

Although Prince’s announcement was initially interpreted to mean that all 21 shows would be held at The Forum, a rep for the singer told the Los Angeles Times that all of the dates wouldn’t be at the venue.

That being said, all of the Los Angeles dates so far are set for The Forum, including the fourth show, which is scheduled for April 23. Earlier this week show No. 2 and 3 were added for April 21-22.

On Monday Live Nation announced in a statement that “85% of all tickets will be available at $25, inclusive of all service fees.”

After beginning the “Welcome 2 America” tour in New Jersey, Prince brought the party to New York’s Madison Square Garden Arena for four nights, followed by three nights in Oakland, Calif., and a string of shows in the Carolinas.

The singer’s previous “Welcome 2 America” East Coast shows featured performances from Prince and his band, the New Power Generation, along with Sheila E., Larry Graham & Graham Central Station, Esperanza Spalding, Maceo Parker, Cassandra Wilson, Janelle Monáe and Mint Condition.

If the rest of Prince’s Los Angeles shows are anything like the first night of his residency, fans should be in for a real treat. According to Rolling Stone’s review of the April 14 show, the performance lasted three hours and included five encores. The New Power Generation, which featured multiple keyboardists but no guitarists, played lots of classic Prince tunes along with several covers. Shiela E. was there, along with celebrities including Eva Longoria and Javier Bardem.

Tickets for the newly announced fourth show go on sale today, April 15 at 12 p.m. PDT via Ticketmaster. The April 21-22 gigs are already on sale.
