Proud Mary Still Burnin’

John Fogerty will deliver a unique slice of Americana later this month when he performs his classic “Proud Mary” while aboard a Mississippi riverboat.

The private performance scheduled for April 23 is a celebration of Fogerty’s 20th wedding anniversary. Written by Fogerty and released in January 1969 when he was in Creedence Clearwater Revival, “Proud Mary,” along with “Born On The Bayou,” helped establish the band’s “bayou sound” even though CCR was from California.

“I’ve loved the music from New Orleans all my life, even before I knew where that music came from,” Fogerty said. “So when Julie and I talked about doing something special for our anniversary, even though we were married in Indiana; we could not think of a better way to celebrate than going down to the bayou with our children and friends. The New Orleans area has gone through some tough times the last few years but the spirit there is amazing and we have always felt incredibly happy there.”

Along with the performance, the riverboat will be renamed “Proud Mary” for the day.
