You Can Still Buy X Japan’s Transparent Piano

Remember the see-through piano that received a $73 million bid during an online auction last week? Evidently the bid was bogus because the piano went back on the auction block today.

Last week X Japan leader Yoshiki put his famed see-through Plexiglas Kawai piano on auction to aid Japan’s Earthquake/Tsunami relief efforts. Bidding quickly climbed up to $42,000 during the first eight minutes of the online auction held in conjunction with Yahoo! Japan.

But a mere five-figure amount wasn’t enough to clinch the deal. Not when another participant offered $73 million, prompting Yahoo! Japan to temporarily suspend the auction until it could verify the bid, eventually confirming that the last legitimate offer for the Grand was $512,231.70

But even the above amount wasn’t a final bid. At least not yet. Yahoo! Japan has put the piano back on the auction block in a bidding frenzy that started today and continues through April 28.

The piano isn’t the only celeb item up for grabs. Working through Yoshiki’s Foundation America organization, X Japan has gathered a wide variety of items for auction from such music notables as Marilyn Manson and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis as well as comic book legend Stan Lee and thespians Robert Pattinson, James Franco and Reese Witherspoon.
