CMT Announces ‘Disaster Relief Concert’

The country music cable channel lines up a galaxy of stars to help those whose affected by recent storms and flooding in America’s southern states.

The CMT Disaster Relief Concert is set to air on the cable channel Thursday, May 12 at 9 p.m. EDT and will feature performances by Hank Williams Jr., Alabama, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Ronnie Dunn, Sara Evans and Tim McGraw. The concert will beam live from Nashville on CMT while simulcasting on its pro-social initiative website CMTOneCountry.com.

While most of the show will feature live performances, there will be some prerecorded segments. For example, McGraw is playing Sioux City, Iowa, May 12, but will provide a prerecorded segment for the charity event.

Because this is an event in the making that only started coming together this week, you can expect more additions to the program as May 12 draws near. CMT is crediting Hank Williams Jr. for getting the ball rolling when he contacted the cable channel about doing something to alleviate the suffering in southern states brought about by record-breaking tornadoes and flooding.

“I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing on TV,” Williams said. “Alabama is home – I am really pumped about helping. I want to raise a lot of money, and thanks to my good friends, we are going to be able to make a difference.”
