Carter Dies

John Carter – known within the industry simply as “Carter” – died.

Carter, who managed Sammy Hagar and Chickenfoot, is credited for reviving Tina Turner’s career in the ’80s when he was an A&R rep for Capitol Records and produced the Private Dancer album.

He is also credited as the lyricist for the Strawberry Alarm Clock’s ’60s hit “Incense & Peppermints.”

Carter, at Capitol, worked with Hagar, Turner, Bob Seger and The Motels. He also worked at Chrysalis and Island / Def Jam.

His age and cause and date of death were not known at press time.
