Pink Floyd Comfortably Reunite On Stage
The reunion went down at Waters’ “The Wall Live” show at The O2 – London. As seen in fan videos quickly uploaded to YouTube, Gilmour and Waters performed “Comfortably Numb” together with Gilmour playing his solo on top of The Wall. The two former bandmates took to the stage once again to close out the show with “Outside the Wall.” They were joined by Mason playing a tambourine, as well as Waters’ touring band.
Pink Floyd last performed together in July 2005 at the “Live 8” benefit concert in London. That show was the first time Waters played with the musicians since leaving Pink Floyd in 1985.
In July 2010 Waters revealed on his Facebook page that he and Gilmour had worked out a deal that fans would find quite interesting. Gilmour promised that if Waters sang the Teddy Bears’ song “To Know Him Is To Love Him” for The Hoping Foundation charity benefit show, he would perform the Pink Floyd classic “Comfortably Numb” at one of Waters’ “The Wall Live” shows.
“Well! You could have knocked me down with a feather,” Waters wrote. “How fucking cool! I was blown away. How could I refuse such an offer. I couldn’t, there was no way.”
After Gilmour and Waters performed last year at the Hoping Foundation charity show, fans had been waited to see when the musicians would team up once again for Gilmour’s end of the deal. When Waters first blogged about the mini-reunion deal, he simply said that Gilmour would decide “in due course which gig he wants to do, it will be a surprise!”
Before taking the stage last night, Gilmour alerted fans about the show through a post on his personal blog. The May 12 post made sure that fans knew the show was a one-time deal.
“I should also remind you that tonight is most definitely a one-off; David is not repeating his special guest performance at a later occasion, I’m sorry to disappoint those of you with fingers crossed and tickets for later shows.”
