Katy Perry’s Rider Rules
Perry’s rules regarding drivers deemed worthy enough to transport her to gigs are outlined in a 23-point “Principle Driver Policy” as part of the latest concert rider obtained by The Smoking Gun.
In addition to telling drivers not to “stare at the backseat through the rearview mirror,” the pop star wants chauffeurs to always use the far-left lane on the highway and include four water bottles in the vehicle. Oh, and don’t ask for autographs or pictures, “especially not while driving!” A chauffeur would obviously not dare engage in any shenanigans while driving if they had read point No. 18 – “Safety 1st.”
The 45-page rider has plenty to say about Perry’s dressing room, which must be piped or draped in cream or soft pink. The (2) floor lamps must be French ornate style and the (2) comfortable armchairs should be egg chairs in cream. One of those oh-so-comfy armchairs should come with a footstool. One has to wonder if Perry’s assistant tests the armchairs like Goldilocks to make sure that they’re just right.
The singer wants an arrangement of fresh flowers in her dressing room featuring pink, white and purple hydrangeas along with pink and white roses and peonies. If that’s not available, seasonal white flowers including white orchids will have to do. The number one flower rule is ABSOLUTELY NO CARNATIONS.
Perhaps the carnations rule is thrown in there as Perry’s version of Van Halen’s famous request for “M&M’s … ABSOLUTELY NO BROWN ONES.” If the floral arrangement contains NO CARNATIONS it’s probably a good indication that the promoter actually read all 45 pages of the rider. Then again, maybe she really does hate carnations.
Perry may not care for carnations, but one thing she is OK with is secondary ticket sales. Her rider requests that the promoter hold back a number of tickets “for distribution to the public through ‘resellers.’” The rider defines resellers as “any ticket agency, ticket re-seller or other so-called ‘secondary market’ seller of tickets … who sell tickets to the general public.”
Promoters in Japan will get the chance to put Perry’s rider into action May 22-26 when she plays Nagoya, Tokyo and Osaka. U.S. and Canadian dates are booked June 7 through Sept. 17, followed by October and November United Kingdom and Ireland shows.
