Barenaked Ladies Minus One Gentleman

Barenaked Ladies’ Kevin Hearn wants to give fans the heads up that he’ll be sitting out a few shows this summer.

In a message to fans the keyboardist announced that Lou Reed had invited Hearn to play in his band during his summer European tour. Hearn noted that he had previously done “shows from time to time” with the musician.

“Now the bad news: unfortunately this means I will not be present at a few of the upcoming BNL shows, namely the shows between July 1 and July 27,” Hearn wrote. “I am sorry I won’t be there, but I will be back in late July.”

Maury LaFoy will fill in for Hearn between July 1-27. As for now Barenaked Ladies only has one show booked during that time period – a July 23 set at “Celebrate Saint Louis Summer Concerts.”

Barenaked Ladies perform Wednesday in San Diego at Humphrey’s Concerts By The Bay. Additional U.S. dates are scheduled May 27 through June 4, followed by another U.S. leg July 23 through Aug. 19. The group has also lined up a June 25 gig in Glasgow, United Kingdom, as well as a June 26 set at “Hard Rock Calling Festival” in London. More dates will be added soon.

Reed’s July 1-26 trek includes shows in the U.K., France and Italy.
