Juanes, Silverchair Talk Hiatus

In the past few days Juanes and Silverchair have both spoken out about taking a break. The Colombian super star says he won’t be away for too long whereas the Australian band’s split is more “indefinite.”

Juanes posted a series of tweets yesterday addressing rumors about his retirement and his relationship with his longtime manager. (The tweets quoted in this story were originally written in Spanish and then translated to English by a bilingual speaker.)

“Of course I’d never retire from music, never that. I’ve just decided to take a small [break] to dedicate some time for my family and me,” Juanes wrote.

“I’m tweeting you guys from the studio, I keep making music every day, I just need some time for reflection and calm so that I could continue!”

The singer noted that although he recently canceled several shows in the U.S., he’ll be in Spain soon and that he’ll tour “the rest of Latin America afterward for sure!”

Juanes confirmed that he’s no longer working with his manager, writing, “It’s true that my professional relationship with Fernan [Martinez] has ended.” As far as a career move into the world of politics – Juanes said that was a joke.

Spanish tour dates are scheduled July 15-30. The canceled U.S. dates were originally set to take place in October.
