Cleanup Relocates Moody Blues Gig

Ongoing cleanup from a Chevron pipe oil leak at a Salt Lake City venue led to moving a Moody Blues concert.

The band was scheduled to perform at the 3,000-capacity Red Butte Garden amphitheatre May 29 to kick off the city’s summer concert season. City officials decided to move the show indoors to the Nu Skin Theatre at Energy Solutions Arena because the work at the shed site wasn’t quite finished.

The December oil spill was the result of a leaky valve along a pipeline that delivers crude from Colorado to Chevron’s Salt Lake City refinery, spilling oil at the entrance of the amphitheatre and gardens. The oil has been removed but areas near the concession stands and entrance are reportedly still being restored.

Officials expect Red Butte Garden to be ready for a June 12 concert with Big Head Todd & The Monsters and Toots & The Maytals.
