Orlando Calling For Benn

Festival Republic, the U.K. company headed by Melvin Benn, is taking another stab at developing an American festival with a November three-day in Orlando, Fla.

Orlando Calling, scheduled Nov. 11-13, is expected to sport four stages and attract upward of 50,000 fans. Details were in short supply at press time, including a lineup and ticket onsale.

The announcement heralds Benn’s second try at a major festival since the ill-fated Vineland fest in New Jersey failed to get off the ground in 2008. Clearly, Benn hasn’t given up on the U.S. festival market – which appears to be fairly booming – and has high hopes for better luck in Florida.

“I am absolutely thrilled to announce that Festival Republic is launching a brand new music event in Orlando which will bring a wealth of amazing talent to the U.S.A.’s Sunshine State,” Benn said in a statement. “The plans for the festival have already generated a huge amount of excitement and enthusiasm from everyone involved who cannot wait to see the first live music event of this scale take place in Florida.

“I have been looking for new opportunities in the U.S. and I am really pleased that this will see the Festival Republic family expand to the U.S. for the first time,” Benn said.
