Tax Lien Unappetizing To Yum

The government agency that owns the KFC Yum Center in Louisville, Ky., disputes property assessment and penalties totaling more than $55,000, saying the arena has a tax exemption.

The Louisville Arena Authority owes the Louisville Downtown Management District $34,154 and $21,167 in fines, according to the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office, which placed a lien on the arena May 1.

The Arena Authority claims it was given property tax exemption based on a 2006 Kentucky Department of Revenue ruling.

Harold Workman, executive director of the arena authority as well as the Kentucky State Fair Board that operates the arena, says they are in discussions with the downtown district about being taken off the assessable list and paying separately for district services.
The downtown district says that’s not the case.

“We are currently not in discussions and consider the arena property assessable property,” Downtown District Executive Director Deb DeLor told the Courier-Journal.
