Faux Mariah Carey Promoter Sentenced
Antywan Ross, through his RDA Group, told investors he was raising money to cover upfront expenses for a series of Carey concerts allegedly planned for the Middle East country.
At one point Ross was able to talk one investor out of $330,000 for the nonexistent shows. Ross eventually copped to using the most of the money for personal expenses and pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud in July 2010.
Today Ross heard the sound of the other shoe dropping when a judge ordered him to serve 21 months in federal prison and pay more than $325,000 in restitution. While almost two years in a federal lockup is no cakewalk, it could have been worse for Ross. The phony promoter could have received up to 20 years in prison.

Of course, some music fans might think 20 years in the slammer isn’t enough for anyone ripping people off by promoting bogus shows. Guess it all depends on your point of view.
