Go Go Green Group

The Green Operations (GO) Group’s first workshop in Amsterdam May 23-24 attracted 35 festival managers, with most of them coming from Yourope, the European festivals’ organisation.

The two-day gathering for sustainable festivals and events was focused on energy-related issues such as effective audience communication tools.

The GO group, at the 1st International GreenEvents Conference in Bonn November 2010, aims to get festivals working together to learn about each others’ efforts on the green issue. GO Group was was founded by the UK’s Bucks University, the GreenEvents Conference, Green Music Initiative and Yourope.

The European festivals in attendance at Amsterdam included Oya Festival (Norway), Roskilde (Denmark), Lowlands (The Netherlands), Malmö Festival (Sweden), Open Air St. Gallen (Switzerland), Boom Festival (Portugal), Melt! Festival (Germany) and the festivals represented by the UK’s Festival Republic.

The next steps for the GO Group will be a partnership with this year’s GreenEvents Europe Conference in Bonn Nov. 2-4 and the planning of the next exclusive GO Group workshop for spring 2012.
