The indie rock band’s new album, Mirror Traffic, is set for release Aug. 23 on Matador Records. The label’s website points out that if you want to get (somewhat) technical, it’s Malkmus’ fifth album after Pavement broke up and either the third or fourth credited to the Jicks “depending on whether you’re looking at spines, sleeves or labels.” Mirror Traffic, which was produced by Beck, is the group’s first album since 2008’s Real Emotional Trash.
The fall tour, which marks the Jicks’ first shows since 2009, kicks off Sept. 20 at The Majestic in Detroit. Shows have been announced through an Oct. 20 gig in Solana Beach, Calif., at Belly Up Tavern.
Stops along the way include shows at the Royale Boston (Sept. 24), New York’s Terminal 5 (Sept. 26), Philadelphia’s Theatre Of The Living Arts (Sept. 28), Chicago’s Vic Theatre (Oct. 6), Milwaukee’s Turner Hall Ballroom (Oct. 7), Seattle’s The Neptune (Oct. 11) and Los Angeles’ The Music Box (Oct. 19).
Malkmus and The Jicks will play a few Canadian gigs with shows at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre (Sept. 21); Ritual Nightclub in Ottawa, Ontario (Sept. 22); Corona Theatre in Montreal (Sept. 23); and Biltmore Cabaret in Vancouver, British Columbia (Oct. 12).
Select tickets go on sale beginning Thursday, June 16.
