The Flaming Lips Add Side-By-Side Shows & Fall Gigs

The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo must have been really good at sharing their toys when they were kids. The two bands have announced a pair of special “side-by-side” shows where the groups will share a stage together.

A post on Weezer’s website explains that the bands will blend their setlists “into one massive gargantuan supersetlist. The bands will trade off setlist segments, switch off songs, share the stage and get loose and crazy together. No one is quite sure yet how it’s gonna go, but everyone is super excited!”

Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, Tenn.

The shows are scheduled July 28 in Holmdel, N.J., at PNC Bank Arts Center, and July 29 in Wantagh, N.Y., at Nikon At Jones Beach Theater. Yeasayer will provide support.

“The Flaming Lips and Weezer are playing a show together … where they are actually playing together,” Coyne said in a press release.

Cuomo added, “I asked Wayne if he has an extra bubble I could ride in.”

The Lips have also added a number of September and October gigs to their schedule.

The new shows include Magna, Utah, at The Great Saltair (Sept. 17); Eagle, Idaho, at Eagle Park Pavilion (Sept. 19); Portland, Ore., at Keller Auditorium (Sept. 20); and Rochester, N.Y., at Main Street Armory (Oct. 25).
