Jacksons Announce MJ Tribute Concert

While some members of Michael Jackson’s family announced today that a tribute concert to the deceased King Of Pop will take place this fall in the United Kingdom, others said they oppose the show.

Apparently not much information was offered during the press conference at a Beverly Hills hotel other than a date and a location. However, it was a chance for the media to gawk at the Jacksons – mother Katherine along with LaToya, Jackie, Marlon and Tito.

Produced by Global Live Events, is scheduled Oct. 8 in Wales at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. Although no lineup information was volunteered at today’s press conference, Global Live Events representatives did say the event would include several major performers.

Names of some artists appearing at the concert may be announced this week. In an article titled “Worst Conference Ever: Jacksons Announce Tribute Concert In Friggin’ Wales,” the L.A. Weekly said the event will begin dropping names tomorrow.

Two names that probably won’t make the lineup are Michael Jackson siblings Jermaine and Randy. The two Jackson brothers issued their own statement shortly after the press conference saying they’re not happy with the tribute concert taking place during the same time Dr. Conrad Murray is on trial for involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors charge that Murray, who was Michael Jackson’s personal physician, gave the singer a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol on the day he died.

“While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death,” Jermaine and Randy Jackson said in a statement.

“There will come a time and place for an amazing and deserving tribute to Michael. But we feel that the most important tribute we can give to our brother at this time is to seek justice in his name.”
