A Free Show From Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire is putting on a free show in the band’s hometown as part of the 10th anniversary of the POP Montreal festival.

The outdoor show is set for Sept. 22 in downtown Montreal at Place des Festivals @ Quartier Des Spectacles. Fellow Montreal indie band Karkwa will open the gig. POP Montreal takes place at various venues in the city Sept. 21-25.

“Our band couldn’t exist without Montreal,” Arcade Fire’s Régine Chassagne said in a statement on POP Montreal’s website. “After having had the chance to tour extensively around the world, we’re very excited to finally come home. And to do so the Montreal way, we hoped to play a free outside show, on the very last day of summer as a big ‘Thank you’ to the beautiful city we love so much. … Hoping to see you at the show… we’re crossing our fingers for great weather.”

Although the show is free, there are a few ways to get into the VIP area if you’re willing to fork over some cash for a charity “dear to the band’s heart.” The first 100 people to make a $200 (or more) donation to KANPE through kanpe.org will receive two passes to the VIP area as well as a copy of the Tracy Kidder’s book “Mountains Beyond Mountains.” The Montreal-based charity’s mission is to help end the cycle of poverty in Haiti through encouraging financial independence.

Another option is to purchase a Super Pass on POP Montreal’s website.

The event is being presented and broadcast live by SiriusXM Canada. Subscribers can tune into Sirius channels 152 and 161 and XM channel 151 to enjoy the show.
