Gallows On Fire

Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire announced late last week that the band had broken up. A statement posted on the group’s website noted that vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Dallas Green wanted to focus on his side project City and Colour and that MacNeil “was recently asked to join another band and he felt it was an opportunity he would like to pursue.”

An exclusive interview with Alternative Press revealed that MacNeil has joined English hardcore punk band Gallows. He takes the place of singer Frank Carter, who announced his separation from Gallows in early July.

“After the boys decided they were going to keep going, my name kind of popped up, and they all thought it made sense,” MacNeil told Alt Press. “It didn’t overcomplicate itself.  I talked to Steph [Carter, guitarist], and I said I was definitely interested. He pretty much said, ‘Okay, let’s do it,’ and I got on a plane and we’re writing right now.”

The Raveonettes’ Show Goes On

Earlier this week The Raveonettes’ Sune Rose Wagner announced that he had just been released from a four-day hospital stay for a herniated disc.

In a post on the Danish indie rock band’s (NSFW) blog, the songwriter/guitarist/vocalist showed off several pictures from his stay at Beth Israel Medical Center and detailed the pain he had been in since Aug. 3. Wagner said that he wouldn’t be able to tour Europe this fall because he’s going into intense physical therapy “for at least 6 weeks.”

The other half of the duo, Sharin Foo, wrote a follow-up post saying that the show would go on with the backing band. 

“I’m terrified and overwhelmed by the task of playing without Sune, but also encouraged and motivated by the challenge,” Foo wrote.

The European run was scheduled to begin Thursday with a gig at Terraneo Festival in Sibenik, Croatia. Dates are set through an Oct. 1 performance in Odense, Denmark at Posten.

Andrew Bird Fever

A new feature-length concert documentary about indie rock singer/songwriter Andrew Bird will make its world premier at the Vancouver International Film Festival. The film, titled “Fever Year,” will be screened sometime during the festival, which takes place Sept. 29 through Oct. 14. Screening dates and times are yet to be announced.

“Fever Year” was filmed during the last few months of Bird’s 2010 tour, which the film’s website describes as his “most rigorous year of touring.” The site notes that Bird wrapped up the tour “feverish and on crutches from an onstage injury.”

The 80-minute documentary includes Bird’s “precarious multi-instrumental looping technique” and performances from collaborators Martin Dosh, Jeremy Ylvisaker, Michael Lewis and St. Vincent.
