Thompson Scores Elton Slot

Country music singer-songwriter Katie Thompson won a competition that will see her open in front of 30,000 fans at Elton John’s New Zealand concert at Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium in November.

More than 70,000 online voters chose the 24-year-old over 50 contestants, reported promoter Capital C: Concerts managing director Phil Sprey.

Thompson has released two albums and is nominated for two gongs at this year’s National Country Music Awards. She gets NZ$5,000 for a 30 minute set along with airfare and hotel fees.
