Academy Music Group’s Northcote Dies

Academy Music Group founder John Northcote died Aug. 10 after a two-year battle against illness.

Northcote, 62, took what was formerly The McKenzie Group to a nationwide chain of Academy venues in cities including London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Sheffield, Bristol, Leeds and Oxford.

He was one of the most well-liked people in the UK live music business and the company HQ at London Brixton Academy has been deluged by tributes and messages of sympathy.

He is survived by his wife Sanae and two children from a previous marriage.
