Crew Members Among Injured In Stage Collapse

Indiana State Police say 18 people remain hospitalized following Saturday’s deadly stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair.

At least one of those hospitalized is a stage crew member who was among four that were in the stage’s rigging at the time of the collapse. One of the four, Nathan Byrd, died the morning after high winds toppled the stage minutes before Sugarland was scheduled to take the stage Aug. 13. All four are members of IATSE Local 30 in Indianapolis.

The most seriously injured crew member, who was not identified, is confirmed to be in critical condition but “improving,” a Local 30 spokeswoman told Pollstar.

State police said Tuesday morning that the 18 patients are being treated for various injuries at Indianapolis hospitals. That’s down from 25 people who remained hospitalized as of Monday afternoon.

Police said they could not release any information about the nature or extent of the patients’ injuries due to federal privacy regulations.
